Your photos
stay on your Mac.

Effective March 18, 2026 Last updated March 18, 2026

Cull Kit does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data. Ever. No servers, no analytics, no accounts, no network requests of any kind. Everything you do in the app stays entirely on your Mac.

No data collected No internet required No accounts or sign-in No analytics or tracking No third-party SDKs Fully offline
01: What we collect

Nothing. Literally nothing.

Cull Kit collects no personal information of any kind. This is not a marketing claim. It is enforced at the technical level by the macOS App Sandbox. The app has zero network entitlements. It cannot make an internet connection even if it wanted to.

Specifically, Cull Kit does not collect:

  • Personal information (name, email, Apple ID)
  • Usage analytics or behavioral data
  • Crash reports or diagnostics
  • Device identifiers or fingerprints
  • Location data
  • Your photos, file names, or folder paths
02: Your photos & files

Your images never leave your Mac.

Cull Kit only accesses files and folders that you explicitly select using the system file picker. The app uses security-scoped bookmarks, a macOS mechanism that grants permission to a specific folder you choose, without giving the app broad filesystem access.

Your images are never copied, moved, uploaded or modified without a deliberate action on your part. Deleting an image sends it to the Trash (reversible). Everything else is read-only from Cull Kit's perspective.

03: Ratings & metadata

Your data, your format, your control.

Star ratings, color labels, and reject flags are written as XMP sidecar files (.xmp) saved in the same folder as your images. These are industry-standard files fully compatible with Lightroom, Capture One and other professional tools.

This data belongs to you. Deleting Cull Kit removes none of it. You own your ratings files unconditionally.

04: Network access

Zero. Enforced by Apple.

Cull Kit has no network entitlements. This is verified and enforced by the macOS App Sandbox, Apple's security model for App Store apps. The app is technically incapable of making any internet connection, DNS lookup, or socket connection of any kind.

There is no "phoning home," no license checks, no update pings, no telemetry. Nothing.

05: Third-party SDKs

None. Zero. Not one.

Cull Kit contains no third-party code of any kind. No Firebase. No Crashlytics. No Amplitude. No advertising SDKs. No social login frameworks. No embedded web views. No analytics libraries.

The app is built entirely with Apple's native frameworks: SwiftUI, AppKit, Core Image and standard Foundation APIs.

06: App Store & Apple

Apple has its own policies.

When you purchase or download Cull Kit from the Mac App Store, Apple collects information according to their own Privacy Policy. This is standard for all App Store apps and is outside Cull Kit's control.

Cull Kit itself receives no information from Apple about who downloaded or purchased the app.

07: Your rights

You have all of them.

Under GDPR, CCPA and similar regulations, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Since Cull Kit holds no personal data whatsoever, these rights are trivially satisfied. There is nothing to access, correct, export or delete on our end.

Your ratings files are on your own machine. You can delete them at any time using Finder.

08: Policy changes

Unlikely, but noted.

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Given that the core principle (collect nothing) is baked into the architecture, substantive changes to this policy are highly unlikely.
